2016 Montana Trip – Part 3 (The Main Mission)

As noted earlier, the main mission for my trip was to spread mom’s ashes.  She always wanted to move to Montana and set up a little mini-ranch.  She also always had a fascination with the Milk River and asked that her ashes be scattered where it returns to the US from Canada.  The river originates in Montana, goes northeast into Alberta, then returns to Montana on the prairie north of Havre.  In doing research for the trip, I found that there was a great deal of access to the river from Fresno Reservoir, just north of Havre, downstream.  However, access north of the lake is not the easiest to achieve.  With the help of Google Earth and my trusty GPS I was able to find a single 10 mile dirt road leading to a bridge over the river, 14 miles south of the Canadian line.  Here are some shots of the site.  I think she’d approve…

While walking back to the car, this little bird (a sandpiper of some type that I already forgot the name of) was buzzing right around my head.  If I was the superstitious type or a native American, I may have read more into it, but it was stirring, nonetheless…
